Just a quick report from Triathlon Age group nationals in Vermont. I placed 31st in my age group and just missed out on making the team for worlds.  My race was however quite eventful.

Tour of the Battenkill Race Report PDF Print E-mail

By: Nessim Mezrahi

It was a great day to race—40 degrees, sunny skies, and we were blessed with damp gravel - at least for the first section.  I am not sure how many Cat 3 participants lined up, but there were a lot of different kits that I did not recognize. In there two strong riders that deserve an honorable mention: a pro mountain biker, who ironically enough went down pretty hard in the first big crash, and the winner of last year’s Cat 4 race. The rollout was peaceful and easy which helped everyone feel comfortable. The first gravel section eased participants' nerves and the peace experienced during the rollout carried through to the end of the first climb.

Punta Chame PDF Print E-mail

Let me start by saying I really really wish I would had read Doug's last article before this race....

As some of you know, I am back in Panama since last friday for summer break. Two days after my arrival, I find myself in the starting line for one of the most important races on the calendar, one that is valid for the national ranking in Panama. All my friends and rivals are there. I keep asking myself why something as trivial as studying for finals week prevented me from training and sleeping properly for such an important event (?). Race starts, no place for thinking anymore.

The Ironman World Championships Kona 2010 (Doug Woods aka Bluey)

Kona is a very odd and unusual place. Beautiful on the one hand and desolate on the other.

My Ironman experience got off to a good start as I positioned myself conservatively on the left hand side of the line. There was some bumping and I swam head first into a canoe but otherwise the start was much less panicked than it looks on TV.

Millersburg Race Report - Paul Wilson PDF Print E-mail
Stage 1: This was a TT first thing Saturday morning at 8:25 am. It was very humid. I was soaked in sweat before I even got started.   Got in my warm-up and headed to the start. The distance was originally 12 miles. But, they shorted it to 9.5 miles. I had pretty good legs for this and managed to ride a 21:40 time, which put me in 9th place on the GC. Oh yeah, I caught two people in front of me.

Why Can't the French Time Trial? PDF Print E-mail
bbcrash2.png  No doubt over the past 25 years many words have been written about the demise of French cycling.  I suspect most of these words have been written in French as the only thing Americans seem to understand about the Tour is LANCE!!!!  But, I digress.  Wait, before pulling myself back from the digression edge, let me encourage you to read this thought-provoking article in Slate by Bill Gifford entitled, and I am not making this up, How Lance Armstrong is like Sarah Palin. Ok, back to the French...

The Wind Is Your Friend or Déjà Vu PDF Print E-mail

By Ron B.

liggett.jpgBy now you have seen, heard or read about the stage 3 shenanigans in the TDF.  I say shenanigans because some claim Columbia-HTC planned the attack, some say they were merely opportunistic, and I am sure there are others who would claim that Armstrong was somehow responsible.  I think the more prosaic explanation is that the brain strust of Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwin and Bob Roll actually got something right by remarking at the beginning of the stage how the wind would have an affect on the outcome of the race.

Poolesville, by Brian D PDF Print E-mail
The Poolesville Road Race has become one of the most talked about races in this region because it is unique and hard.  The 1.1 mile dirt/gravel/potholed section of River Road is probably the most loved or hated section of any course.  I ended up with 3rd place so I'm right now in the camp of loving that section of road but I can certainly understand the frustration that it causes.
