Let me start by saying I really really wish I would had read Doug's last article before this race....

As some of you know, I am back in Panama since last friday for summer break. Two days after my arrival, I find myself in the starting line for one of the most important races on the calendar, one that is valid for the national ranking in Panama. All my friends and rivals are there. I keep asking myself why something as trivial as studying for finals week prevented me from training and sleeping properly for such an important event (?). Race starts, no place for thinking anymore.

Tour of the Battenkill Race Report

It was a great day to race—40 degrees, sunny skies, and we were blessed with damp gravel - at least for the first section.  I am not sure how many Cat 3 participants lined up, but there were a lot of different kits that I did not recognize. In there two strong riders that deserve an honorable mention: a pro mountain biker, who ironically enough went down pretty hard in the first big crash, and the winner of last year’s Cat 4 race. The rollout was peaceful and easy which helped everyone feel comfortable. The first gravel section eased participants' nerves and the peace experienced during the rollout carried through to the end of the first climb.

(HIT) High Intensity Riding in the Offseason?

A question that comes up often with Triathletes and Bike racers is should I be doing high intensity workouts during the off season? Traditional training suggests HIT might magically prevent you from getting a good base? Or that high intensity work might make you peak too soon? Or that too much high intensity training will lead to over training? In my opinion those worries are wrong, wrong, and scientifically proven to be wrong.
